Step 1: We need to measure your box spring and find the appropriately fitted sheet that will cover it. Below, you can find the standard measurements for box spring mattresses. With that in mind, you need to find a sheet that will correspond to your mattress.
Dimensions:
- Twin: 38 x 75-inches
- Full: 53 x 75-inches
- Queen: 60 x 80-inches
- King: 76 x 80-inches
- California King: 72 x 84-inches
Step 2: Make sure that the fitted sheet you’re choosing will fit the mattress dimensions in their entirety, especially height. Keep in mind that box spring mattresses have taller construction, so ensure that the sheet’s elastic straps can get below the box spring and close it up.

Upholstering Your Box Spring
This may be the most affordable option to cover your box springs. Unfortunately, it’s likely also the most time-consuming and may require you to use some tools and skills on your end. The point is to get a soft and breathable covering that will transform your room into a fresher environment.
Step 1: Prepare a staple gun and the fabric you want to turn into a padded sheet that you want to upholster to your box spring.
Step 2: For better quality, it’d be best to wash your sheet first. We say this because bed sheets and paddings tend to shrink with washing. If you wash them beforehand, you’ll be able to estimate how much you should cut once the sheet potentially shrinks.
Step 3: You will need to cut the fabric you prepared into four squares that you’ll attach to your box spring. One square should equal one square foot. These will be put around the corners of the box spring you use.
Step 4: Now is the time to cut 4 more pieces of the sheet that you will staple to the sides of the box spring. You will need to measure both your mattress and box spring to do this. Consider at least 2-3 inches longer than the original box spring, and at least 5 inches wider. If you don’t cut longer pieces, then once you staple and cover it, it might not fit in entirety.
Step 5: Prepare one sheet panel that will cover the underside of the box spring and merge with the aforementioned pieces. It should cover the edge of the box spring at least 1 to 2 inches, so it all lays properly when stapled.
Step 6: Grab an upholstery tape and carefully apply it 1 inch of the box spring’s edge.
Step 7: Staple over the edge and the upholstery tape so that you can secure the box spring sheet won’t fall away or break off from the rest of the sheet.
