Tempur Pedic is one of the most popular brands in the sleep industry. Thousands of satisfied customers trust their products, whether it’s a mattress, mattress topper, or a pillow. Tempur Pedic mattresses are made out of a durable and pressure-relieving Tempur material, which is similar to the memory foam as we know it. Although memory foam mattresses are known to last a long time, nothing lasts forever.

With that in mind, we wrote this article to help you understand the warranty and lifespan of a Tempur Pedic mattress. After you finish reading, you’ll know how often should you replace a Tempur Pedic mattress, and whether it’s time to replace yours.

On the other hand, if you’re thinking about getting a Tempur Pedic mattress, this is what you need to know about its longevity and whether you can use the best out of its warranty.

Tempur Pedic Mattress Overview

As mentioned earlier, Tempur Pedic is one of the most popular mattress brands, but it also makes other products such as mattress toppers, pillows, bed bases, and accessories like bedding and sheets. It’s extremely popular because of the impeccable quality it offers to customers and premium features that maximize comfort.

Tempur Pedic mattresses come with a lot of features, but first, it’s important to look at some of the available models and compare what you may need to maximize the features to optimize your night rest.

Here are the most popular models from the Tempur Pedic site:

  • TEMPUR-Adapt – The classic model with conforming polyfoam layer engineered by NASA for maximized comfort and pressure relief. It’s ideal for anyone thanks to its medium-level firmness.
  • TEMPUR-Pro-Adapt – This model is the company’s most popular jewel. It retains all the features from its classic models while adding a few more. It’s available in all firmness levels and it’s ideal for people with back pain, looking for pressure and pain relief.

  • TEMPUR-Breeze – As its name suggests, TEMPUR-Breeze leads at its advanced cooling technology. The company promises up to 8-degrees cooler sleeping surface.

Recently, the company also debuted a new model known as the TEMPUR-Cloud, which is a more affordable, sub-$2000 option. Although Tempur Pedic mattresses are known to be more expensive than other memory foam and hybrid mattresses, a lot of people trying to find a mattress for less than $2000 have come to the right place.

When it comes to types of mattresses Tempur Pedic offers, there are two most prominent options – hybrid and all-foam based mattresses.

The hybrid mattress is made out of coil or spring core that ensures stability, support, firmness, and balance. With coils surrounding the edges of the mattress, hybrid mattresses also offer premium edge support, which is important for people who like sleeping on the edge. Aside from that, these mattresses are also equipped with multiple layers of premium memory foam to give a conforming and sinking sensation.

On the other hand, all-foam mattresses, in addition to the layers of memory foam also boast a layer of high-density polyfoam which is a substitute for a stable spring system. Tempur Pedic refers to this material as the premium TEMPUR material and promises more support and comfort than standard memory foam.

When it comes to firmness, firmness varies. While some mattresses come with all 3 settings (soft, medium, and firm) + the hybrid medium or firm, some mattresses come only with one to two settings.

Editor’s note: Keep in mind that with age, mattresses begin to wear off. The first sign of mattress decay is the quality of foam that is layered on it. With that in mind, firm mattresses will become softer. Also, the softer mattresses will create a sinking area that’s too saggy to sleep on.

With that in mind, let’s review the Tempur Pedic warranty, as well as the lifespan of these mattresses. That will give you a general idea of when is it time to change the Tempur Pedic mattress.

Tempur Pedic Warranty

Warranty is one of the most important general considerations to take before buying a mattress that should serve you for several years. After all, you don’t want to spend several thousands of dollars for a mattress that will only support you for 1 to 3 years.

But, fret not, Tempur Pedic offers a lengthy warranty and a lot more perks.

Most of the mattress manufacturers in the United States offer a standard limited warranty of 10 years. Tempur Pedic is one of those companies too. But the prognosis and analysis of various customers who have used the mattress before say that they can last much longer.

With that in mind, the company will offer a full replacement for over 10 years. That means that you can sleep free of any worry of concern, as long as you don’t physically damage the mattress.

The warranty refers to any type of damage that was a direct result of a poor manufacturing process or a manufacturing defect. That means, that the company will cover mattress sagging, as long as it exceeds 0.75-inches in sagging, which is pretty standard for every mattress company.

The company will also cover damage that was a result of split material and holes caused by either the springs (if you use a hybrid mattress, although highly unlikely) or damage from the zipper.

Editor Note: But, as we said earlier, the company won’t cover a warranty that was a result of user abuse and damage. Tempur Pedic will decline any damage complaint that is a result of stains, liquid damage (water is the archenemy of foam mattresses), cigarette or any other burns, and other types of physical damage.

As a result, if you were putting your mattress in an improperly sized bed frame or jumped on it a little too hard, you may not be eligible for receiving a full replacement over the warranty period.

Lastly, the company warns its customers to keep all the warranty documents at a safe place so that if a defect happens they can show the evidence of their purchase.

The flaw of the Tempur Pedic warranty is that in comparison to the prices of mattresses, it’s quite short. Other companies can offer as many as 25 years of warranty, while some brands are confident enough to offer a lifetime warranty.

Note: Tempur Pedic also used to offer 25 years of warranty, until it changed its policy in March 2014.

Regardless, Tempur Pedic mattresses are of luxurious quality and will last much more than their predicted warranty. Some customers are satisfied with their purchase even after 15 years of use.

If you are unsure about whether the Tempur Pedic mattress is the right purchase for you, you can enjoy the benefit of a 90-day sleep trial and return it if you’re not satisfied.

Tempur Pedic Lifespan

Every mattress has its lifespan regardless of warranty. If it’s poorly engineered, it won’t last long. Yet, if it’s well-made it can last up to two decades. Mattresses can usually last between 5 to 10 years. But, with good engineering, they can last for a lifetime.

Tempur Pedic mattresses were made to last, and with proper maintenance, you will likely never have to replace it. When we say maintenance, we mean treating it well. That means placing it on an even and appropriate bed frame, avoiding jumping on it vigorously, or exposing it to sun or fluids, as it can damage the foam inside of it.

We said earlier that the projected lifespan for Tempur Pedic mattress can be within its stated warranty, but it can also happen to last much longer. Some happy customers used Tempur Pedic mattress for over 10 years, and when it was time to change it, they kept coming back to Tempur Pedic.

However, if the mattress is nearing its warranty limit and you may have treated it a bit unfairly, you may have to replace it a bit earlier. If we don’t consider warranty, people usually replace their Tempur Pedic mattress anywhere between 7 and 10 years, if the sagging and some level of damage are noticeable, but not noticeable enough to require a look by a professional (say, it sagged less than 0.75-inches.)

With that in mind, if you have 3 to 2 years left of warranty, and you notice some irreparable damage to your Tempur Pedic mattress, it’s time to look at some newer options.

Is Tempur Pedic Mattress Worth It?

We considered lifespan, warranty, and basic features that the company offers and concluded that you should replace the Tempur Pedic mattress every 7 to 9 years. The reasons may vary, but if you notice damage that won’t likely get repaired, it’s the best option.

But, is the Tempur Pedic mattress even worth it? They can cost several thousands of dollars, and offer only a 10-year warranty. We say “only” because we know of companies such as Layla that can offer way more, with similar pricing.

If you’re restricted on budget and want to find a mattress that will last more than 10 years, you’ll have a hard time finding “the one.” But, you’ll be able to find good mattresses in a more appropriate price range that also has a decent warranty (brands such as Lucid, Zinus, and others.)

Still, regardless of all potential drawbacks of the Tempur Pedic mattress, it is a great quality mattress company that will maximize your comfort and provide you with night rest that many companies can’t deliver.

Additionally, if you want to experiment with different mattress types, brands, and overall customer service, replacing mattresses every 7 to 9 years isn’t that bad.

Tips to Extend Lifespan Of Your Mattress

If you notice slight signs of Tempur Pedic mattress decay, perhaps it’s not too late. Here are a few tips that will help you extend its lifespan well past the designated warranty.

  • Use mattress protector – If you live in a sunny apartment or are clumsy, a mattress protector is the best way to protect your mattress from potential memory foam damage.
  • Don’t clean with water – Spot cleaning of TEMPUR mattresses is a definite no-no
  • Use a mattress topper – Mattress toppers are a great way to preserve your mattress if it’s too firm or has started sagging. Tempur Pedic also offers plenty of mattress toppers.
  • Avoid jumping on the bed – Children like to play and jump on beds, especially when the mattress is as fluffy as the Tempur Pedic’s. Still, try to avoid that.
  • Rotate it often – Some sleep experts recommend rotating your mattress every few months to even the edges and rejuvenate the foam.

Note: Unfortunately, Tempur Pedic mattresses aren’t flappable, so you won’t be able to flip it if you notice it starts to sag. Still, as said earlier, you can easily rotate it on the other side, as that has also shown itself as beneficial.
